Lorraine Siefke- Class Intro Reading Excerpts

I found the excerpt, “Sacred space may also be defined as that locality that becomes a position by the effects of power repeating themselves there, or being repeated by man. It is the place of worship, independently of whether the position is only a house, or a temple, since domestic life too is a celebration constantly repeated in the regulated cycle of work, meals, washing etc." to be a good way to start thinking about the idea of a sacred space. This made me consider what to me is a sacred space. First, I thought about the church building as my sacred place, but then I thought about all the places I pray or reflect. There are some places, even of just my house, to be a sacred place. Like mentioned in the excerpt, this place in my house has become a sacred place to me due to my repeated cycle prayer in that location. Some places in our domestic lives can become sacred spaces temporarily as well and can function for multiple purposes depending on our repeated actions in these spaces. What spaces have become a sacred space in your life? Is it more than just a temple or church?
